Who You Will Be Talking To

The pharmacist on duty — usually Nick. Someone who is here every week, who you can come back to, and who will give you a straight answer including when the straight answer is "that one is a question for your doctor."

This is a conversation with a pharmacist about what you are already taking and what you want to ask. It is not a programme you sign up to.

Ask at the pharmacy counter, or call (519) 742-9955. We will find a time that gives you room to talk.

There is nothing to pay for the appointment.

What to Bring

• Everything you currently take, in the original packaging where you can — prescriptions, anything from a pharmacy shelf, and anything you bought online
• Your Ontario health card
• Your questions, written down if that helps

Bring the things you have already tried, too, even the ones sitting unfinished in a cupboard. They are part of the picture and nobody is going to be sniffy about them.

What Happens When You Sit Down

You talk, and he listens first. What you have tried, what you are taking now, what you actually want to ask. Then you go through what you brought, item by item.

Plenty of what comes up in these conversations belongs with your doctor or another health professional rather than with a pharmacist, and where that is the case he will tell you so and help you work out how to raise it — rather than talking around it because it is not his to answer.

What You Walk Away With

The questions you came in with, answered by a pharmacist rather than by a search engine. A clear line between what is a pharmacy question, what is a prescriber question, and what is neither.

You leave with a written summary as a matter of course, so it is not something you have to keep in your head.

The Door Stays Open

Come back whenever. If something changes, if you picked up something new and want a second opinion on it before you start, or if you simply thought of the question afterwards — that is what the counter is for, and you do not need another appointment to ask one thing.
