Free Naloxone Kits in Kitchener
Free nasal-spray naloxone kits at the Greenbrook Pharmacy counter, 421 Greenbrook Drive, Kitchener. No appointment. No prescription. Just ask.
How to Get One
Come to the pharmacy counter any time we are open and say you would like a naloxone kit. That is the whole process. You do not need to book, you do not need a prescription, and there is nothing to pay.
You will be speaking to the pharmacist on duty — usually Nick. If you would rather not do this at the counter, say so and he will take you into our private consultation area.
What Happens Before You Leave
Our kits are the nasal spray, not the injectable kind — there is no needle involved. The pharmacist opens one with you and goes through it piece by piece: what each item is, what order you would use things in, and what to do while you wait for help to arrive. He will hand you the pieces so you have held them once before the day you might need them, because a kit you have only read about is harder to use under pressure.
It takes a few minutes. You can ask him to run through it twice. Most people do.
What You Take Home
You leave with the kit itself and the written instructions that come in it, so the walkthrough is not something you have to hold in your head.
Keep it somewhere you could reach quickly rather than somewhere safe and forgotten, and check the expiry date on it from time to time.
Come Back Any Time
If you want the walkthrough again in six months because you have forgotten it, come back and ask. If you are not sure whether your kit is still in date, bring it in and we will look at it with you. If you used it, come and tell us — that is the most important visit of all, and nobody will make it awkward.
You can also just call (519) 742-9955 and ask a question without coming in.
